- About Us
Cobra motorcycles were founded back in 1993 by Bud Maimone, who started hand-crafting the mini bikes out of his garage in Ohio.
The Yamaha PW 50 used to be the undefeated bike in Americas biggest race Loretta Lynn. That would all get to change. In August 1993, the machine shop owner Bud Maimone watched his son finish 12th after a bike breakdown in the mid moto. Maimone went home, rang up AMA and asked how many bikes he had to have on the market in order to have the bike homologated. He was fortunate that the AMA had just made an adjustment, changing the minimum from 200 motorcycles to 50.
By January of 1994 he was in production making his own bikes. And by August Maimone had proven that 50 identical units had been built and AMA approved the bike named Cobra. After battling James “Bubba” Stewart for three motos, Maimone and Cobra won the Championchip its first time out. Among the kids in the long line of successful cobra riders at Loretta Lynn´s are Adam Cianciarulo, Blake Bagget, Eli Tomac, Davi Millsaps, Trey Canard and many more.
2003 Bud Maimone sold the company. Cobramoto is today run by President Sean Hilbert and Phil McDowell. The factory is today located in Hillsdale, Michigan USA where the bikes are developed and built.
..Started with CobraOfSweden in november 2015.
Nov 2015, we closed the deal with Cobra Moto and get our first bikes shipped. CobraOfSweden was the name of the company and we wanted first of all take a new brand into the Swedish market.
Our goal was to sell 10 bikes the first year and learn more about the brand, quality and the leadtimes for shipping of bikes and spareparts. Of course we wanted one year of training and competing with the bikes so we could decide if the Cobrabikes were something to invest in.
March 2017, we visited Cobra Moto in Hillsdale Michigan. After that we were stunned and decided that we wanted to make a difference in the market in Sweden and Scandinavia.
Aug 2017 we close a new deal with Cobra, now under the name CobraOfScandinavia. We are now the only channel into Scandinavia and its now up to us to make the High Quality brand of Cobra to expand in our region. Our goal is now to expand in Scandinavia with a number of dealers who can help us reach out to all of Scandinavia and make everyone feel safe about the brand and availability for spareparts and so on.
